BROOMFIELD MUSIC TEACHERS ASSOCIATION BYLAWS

ARTICLE 1: NAME
This organization shall be know as the Broomfield Music Teachers’ Association of Broomfield, Colorado
ARTICLE 2: PURPOSE
The purpose of the organization shall be to elevate teaching standards of music in the community and to promote cooperation among music teachers in Broomfield, Colorado, and the surrounding area.
ARTICLE 4: MEMBERSHIP
Section 1
All active, associate, student, and senior members shall be required to hold membership in the Colorado State Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National association. Members must pay the annual dues required by those associations.
Section 2: Membership
a. Active members are those engaged in the teaching of music.
b. Associate members are those interested in supporting this organization, but not presently engaged in the teaching of music. Associate members shall not hold office or have the right to vote.
Section 3: Dues
lass="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">Local Association dues shall be $25.00 per year and paid to the local chapter by the national organization. Local, state, and national dues are payable to the Music Teachers National Association. New members joining after January 1 will pay pro-rated dues of one-half the current rate for local, state, and national dues. They will be expected to pay full dues by the following May 1.
ARTICLE 5: OFFICERS
The officers of this association shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, and treasurer. Officers shall be elected for a two-year term. Newly elected officers shall be installed in May and assume their duties immediately. In the event of absence or inability of any officer to act, the President or next in line may delegate duties of such officer or person whom he/she may select.
President
The President shall preside at all meetings of the organization and of the Executive Board, appoint committees and chairpersons as needed, and keep informed of their activities.
Vice-President
The Vice-President shall act as an aide to the President and perform the duties of the President in his/her absence. The Vice-President shall also be program chairman.
Secretary
The secretary shall keep a current record of all meetings of the organization and Executive Board, and write any correspondence needed from the organization.
Treasurer
The Treasurer shall receive dues from the national organization and collect other income, pay the expenditures of the organization, and keep an accurate record of the same.
The Executive Board
The Executive Board shall be composed of the officers and the President of the previous year. The Executive Board shall have the general responsibility of the work of the organization and shall have power to act for the organization between meetings.

ARITCLE 6: NOMINATING COMMITTEE
The nominating committee shall consist of a chairperson appointed by the President and two other members. They will meet in March to select the slate of nominees. Nominees will be announced in April and vested in May.
ARITCLE 7: MEETINGS
The regular meeting of the organization shall be held on the second Wednesday of each month (September, October, November, January, February, March, April, and May).
ARTICLE 8: AMENDING THE BYLAWS
These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the organization by a majority vote of the members present and voting, provided that a notice of the proposed amendment has been given at a previous regular meeting.
ARTICLE 9: ANTI-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT
The Broomfield music Teachers’ Association does not discriminate due to race, religion, gender or sexual orientation and is handicapped accessible.
